C’mon and TOTEM UP NORTH!
The Cascade ACD Club is thrilled to once again host the ACDCA National Specialty. We have a week packed with competitions, parties, educational programs and most of all fun for those of us that can’t get enough of all things Cattle Dog!
The backdrop for our show this year is the breathtakingly beautiful corner of the Pacific Northwest. You can’t get much more “northwest” than where we will be, nestled in between the unique jagged beauty of the Olympic Mountain range to the west and the majestic Cascade Mountains to the east with Puget Sound in the middle of it all. There are many islands in Puget Sound, a short ferry ride away, that offer a slower pace, friendly people and natural beauty beyond compare. If city life is more to your liking, Seattle is only about an hour away and offers a wide array of activities. Seattle is home to the Experience Music Center, Starbucks (yes, once upon a time there was only one) Boeing Aircraft, Microsoft, the Seattle Center with the monorail and Seattle’s most recognizable landmark, the Space Needle. Seattle is also home to world class dining where seafood is king, magnificent museums, the Underground City, and enough activities to keep the adventurous delighted for weeks. Born out of the timber, Seattle is clean, safe, and friendly. Seattle is so great that the richest man in the world lives there, and he can live anywhere! For those that really seek out adventure, Mt. St. Helens, the lower forty eight’s only active volcano, is about three hours away. Entire forests were laid down like toothpicks in the massive explosion that literally blew the top off the mountain in 1980. There is a very informative Visitors Center at Mt. St. Helens and for a unique and educational experience this is a fantastic opportunity.
Starting on Saturday, September 22, this fun filled week will begin with an ACDCA designated regional obedience and rally trial, followed up Sunday by the ACDCA designated national obedience, rally and agility trials. For those agility competitors that want to “get a jump” on things, there is an all breed trial, hosted by the Cascade Dachshund Club about fifty miles south, in Kent, WA on Saturday. Cascade Club specialty conformation and sweepstakes will also be held both days during the weekend. Monday will feature a plethora of health related clinics, the popular Properties classes, herding instinct tests, western barbeque and the exciting Calcutta. Tuesday will start with our puppy hopefuls and distinguished veterans in sweepstakes, followed by class dogs. Wednesday will begin with class bitches, followed by Best of Breed capped off with the business of our club at the annual meeting. Thursday the rubber hits the road with the first day of herding trials at nearby On the Lamb Farm. This picturesque farm is completely set up and ready to go for two days of fun and excitement. Thursday night all the zaniness and guaranteed fun of Dingo Bingo will entertain us while we win great prizes. Friday culminates our week with the awards banquet to honor the very best our breed has to offer in all the venues. This year we even have the added fun to be hosted by our friends in Canada at their national specialty beginning Saturday, September 29 a short two hour drive north. Plan to bring your passport for an easier crossing back into the US.
The Cascade Club has worked very hard to make this week a special one for you and your dogs. We realize that for many this week is your vacation and we will be honored to have you share that with us. So, pack your bags, load up your dogs and Totem Up North!!
